Marvel Strike Force is a tactical RPG. The game uses a free-to-play distribution model with microtransactions. It was developed by Seismic Games, a team founded by the ex-members of the now-defunct studio Pandemic Games – the creators of Star Wars Battlefront (from 2004), Star Wars Battlefront II (from 2005), Full Spectrum Warrior and The Saboteur.
As the title suggests, the game takes place in the comic universe of Marvel, where superheroes are constantly fighting supervillains.
The plot revolves around an invasion on Earth by the Kree Empire led by the villain named Ultimus. The story is merely an excuse for fights, although fans of the comics might find special events related to debuts of Marvel movies and comics quite enjoyable.
The gameplay in Marvel Strike Force focuses on participation in turn-based battles of five-person teams. The battles are similar to those present in RPG titles, although the title is limited only to combat and it lacks exploration.
The developers created a variety of playable characters – each one with unique skills. It is possible to use team attacks in which a few warriors participate simultaneously. Selecting proper equipment and developing character skills are important as well.
The possibility to lead well-known characters is a strong advantage of the game. Among the playable warriors, there are Spider-Man, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, Loki, Elektra, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Gamora, Daredevil, Star-Lord, Crossbones, Nebula, Doctor Strange and Winter Soldier. At first, the player has access only to a few characters and unlocking new ones is one of the forces driving the players to play more.
The game features attractive, three-dimensional high-quality graphics powered by Unity engine.
