The game's story is not associated with the trilogy about Commander Shepard's fight against the Reapers, offering instead a completely separate plot featuring new characters and locations.

Mass Effect: Andromeda for PC, PS4 and etc. is another installment in action-RPG series started several years ago by BioWare. The production was created by a division of Montreal which had helped with development of Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

The game takes the players back to the well-known universe where they can travel the vast galaxy and meet dozens of different alien races. A a complex plot, full of intriguing themes and sudden twists, is an inherent element of the series.

The fourth game in the Mass Effect series not only offers a new story, but also better technology. The production uses the Frostbite engine developed by EA DICE. Frostbite has been used before in such titles as Battlefield 3 or Medal of Honor.

Perhaps Mass Effect Andromeda will serve as a wake-up call for BioWare, letting them realize that it’s time to evolve beyond the change of  setting and cast. In the meanwhile, we’re still given a game that might not be the monumental fresh start that the masses expected, but is still a quite solid experience than many will enjoy.

  • Visuals and Environments: The game features stunning graphics and beautifully designed planets, which enhance the exploration experience.
  • Exploration and Open World: The sense of exploration in a new galaxy was appreciated, with players enjoying the freedom to traverse different planets.
  • Character Customization: The character creation system is seen as an improvement, allowing for more personalized avatars.
  • Loyalty Missions: Some loyalty missions were noted as engaging and reminiscent of those in the original trilogy, giving players a chance to connect with squadmates.
  • Sound Design: The audio quality, including sound effects and music, received positive feedback for enhancing immersion.

The main cons of the game

  • Weak Story and Characters: Many players found the main story lacking depth, feeling generic compared to the original trilogy. Characters were often described as forgettable or poorly written, lacking the charisma of previous companions.
  • Technical Issues: At launch, the game faced numerous bugs, including animation glitches and performance issues, which affected the overall experience.
  • Repetitive Gameplay: Players noted that the fetch quests and mission structure became tedious over time, with many quests feeling like busywork.
  • Limited Choices and Consequences: The absence of a meaningful choice system (like the Paragon/Renegade system) made decisions feel inconsequential, diminishing the impact of player choices.
  • Poor AI: Both enemy and companion AI were criticized for being ineffective, leading to frustrating gameplay moments.
  • Lack of Races: The absence of familiar alien races from the original trilogy was a significant disappointment for many fans.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Meaningful Choices: There was a call for a more robust choice system that affected the narrative and character relationships.
  • More Diverse Alien Races: Fans missed the variety of species from the original games, feeling that Andromeda lacked the richness of the Mass Effect universe.
  • Improved NPC Interactions: Many players wanted more dynamic and meaningful interactions with NPCs and squadmates.
  • Quicksave Functionality: The absence of a quicksave feature was a notable frustration, especially in a game where players might want to save frequently during exploration or combat.
  • Expanded Lore and Plot Resolution: Players were disappointed by the lack of closure on several plotlines and the absence of DLC that could have expanded the story.

Summary

  • In summary, while Mass Effect: Andromeda has its strengths, particularly in gameplay mechanics and visuals, it struggles with narrative depth, character development, and technical execution, leading to mixed reviews from players.
