Medieval Kingdom Wars is an extensive strategy game that combines elements of RTS and Grand Strategy sub-genres. The action of this production takes place in historical realities - it enables us to play the role of a lesser lord who serves his lord in medieval Europe (1336). The independent company Reverie World Studios is responsible for the creation of this title.

Mechanics

The gameplay in Medieval Kingdom Wars brings to mind what we know from the Total War series made by Creative Assembly. The game offers an extensive strategic layer, as well as the option to manage cities and participate in battles - everything happens in real time. The creators have also included some elements associated with the rogulike genre - the production records our progress on an ongoing basis and we are not able to return to the old state of the game. Every decision is final and every error has its consequences.

We can start the game as one of 50 different heroes. Moving around the map, we occupy areas, acquire resources and form alliances using the feudal diplomacy system, which enables us to acquire vassals. With time we can even turn against our lord and lead a rebellion - then we can become the king and get access to completely new opportunities (e.g. granting land to individual lords). Proper management of our lands is very important - we have to develop cities, assign tasks to peasants or erect buildings. At the same time, we also supervise the kingdom on a macro scale and take care of appropriate technological development (several hundred different inventions known from the real world await to be discovered).

In the course of the game we often fight our rivals. What is important, during the battle we directly control our troops, and the scale of the battles is truly epic - up to 120 battalions can take part in them, among which we can find dozens of realistically reconstructed units and battle machines. Battles also have different objectives and mechanics - apart from ordinary battles of troops we can take part in sieges (both as an attacker and a defender).

Medieval Kingdom Wars also offers mod support and a powerful world editor that, along with several other tools, enables us to create our own modifications without any problems.

Game modes

Medieval Kingdom Wars can be played solo or with others. The production offers a narrative tutorial (consisting of 9 missions) and an extensive campaign, which can be played solo or in cooperation with our colleagues. Additionally, the game from Reverie World Studios enables us to play instant battles (so-called skirmishes) in multiplayer mode.

Technical aspects

Medieval Kingdom Wars features nice three-dimensional visuals. The game world looks very impressive, delighting players with beautiful landscapes and spectacular light and weather effects. The models are detailed and nicely animated both for units and residents. The fun is accompanied by a pleasant soundtrack, which was recorded with the use of real instruments and harmonizes well with the atmosphere of this production.
