The next major installment in Creative Assembly's strategy game series. Total War: Medieval 3 is the third part in the Medieval sub-series and a sequel to Total War: Medieval II from 2006. A new engine named Warcore was used for this game and a Polish developer named Pawel Wojs was appointed project director.
For many years, fans of the Total War strategy series have been asking Creative Assembly for a sequel to Total War: Medieval II (also known as Medieval II: Total War) from 2006. Their wish began to come true only nineteen years later when the developer officially announced Total War: Medieval III.
The action of Total War: Medieval III takes place in the Middle Ages. The game is built on the same foundations as the previous strategies under this banner.
During the game we take control of a chosen faction and lead it to victory by making strategic decisions and commanding armies during real-time battles. The outcome of these battles is shaped not only by the size of the armies or the tactics we choose but also by factors such as the morale of our units.
The game gives us the freedom in how we approach historical realities in our own way. Although hard facts serve as a starting point, we can deviate from the "canon" and implement "what if" scenarios. It is important to remember that the choices we make not only determine the fate of our state and shape it in a way similar to a character in an RPG game but also affect the entire game world.
The director of the Total War: Medieval III project is Pawel Wojs, a developer from Poland, who in the 1990s emigrated to England with his family. At the time of the announcement of the game, Wojs had 20 years of experience at Creative Assembly, working as a 3D artist and overseeing the artistic layer of subsequent titles under this brand. He took charge of this project in 2022.
For the purpose of Total War: Medieval III, the developes used the "next evolution" of their technology, dubbed Warcore. The new engine provides a leap in terms of graphics and animation quality and is also compatible with PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
