Monkey King: Master of the Clouds is a refreshed version of the shoot'em up known in the west as Cloud Master, which debuted in 1989 on arcade machines and over time has been converted for a variety of stationary consoles. The production remaster described here, created by Starfish studio and released by Retroism, appeared on PS4, PC and Switch platforms, among others.
Although the plot does not play a particularly important role in Monkey King: Master of the Clouds. It is worth noting that it is full of references to Chinese legends and literature. As we play, we play the role of Mike Chen, who, like the Monkey King of the Wandering West (one of the four classic novels from the Middle Kingdom by Wu Cheng'en), travels on a flying cloud, facing enemies inspired by the heroes of Chinese myths.
In the Monkey King: Master of the Clouds released on PS4, PC and Switch Monkey King: we observe the action from the side. The game consists of five arenas in which we face different opponents; we are talking about serial opponents as well as much more powerful bosses. The protagonist eliminates enemies by firing balls of energy, and his combat potential increases the power-ups he finds along the way; moreover, in the course of the struggle we gain credits, which can be exchanged for special bombs.
In Monkey King: Master of the Clouds can be played both alone and with a second player in a local cooperation mode. In addition, you can boast of your results on online record boards.
For the PS4, PC and Switch Monkey King: Master of the Clouds platform, the authors raised the resolution of the two-dimensional graphics of the original. Although the game still takes place in a 4:3 aspect ratio, the game has been adapted to the specificity of widescreen displays; the free space on the sides of the screen has been filled not only with atmospheric illustrations, but also with user interface elements.
