Mortal Kombat 1 Expansion Pack
MK1: Khaos Reigns
Release Date: September 24, 2024
An expansion to the fighting game from 2023. Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns features a new story mode, focusing on the arrival of Lord Havik from an alternate timeline. It also contains Kombat Pack 2 with Noob Saibot, Conan, Ghostface and T-1000 among new characters.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is an add-on to the fighting game titled Mortal Kombat 1 released in 2023. The expansion enriches the base version of the game with a continuation of the main plot and also features Kombat Pack 2 - a set of new playable characters. Both the original game and its add-on were developed by the NetherRealm studio, also known thanks to Injustice.
The expansion continues the story of the main heroes in the renewed universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang. His New Era once again faces a threat when the ruthless Lord Havik and his army arrive from an alternate timeline. The antagonist has only one goal - to introduce complete anarchy. Liu Kang must once again gather warriors who will face the danger.
In Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns we still participate in extremely brutal fights that are the hallmark of the series. The expansion does not introduce changes to the gameplay, instead focusing on expanding the group of heroes.
The DLC once again allows us to play as characters known from previous installments of the Mortal Kombat series. One of them is Noob Saibot, who cooperates with the main antagonist and uses his dark doppelgangers in battle. In Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns there are also female versions of Cyrax and Sektor, who use modern technology. The cast is complemented by iconic movie characters, namely Ghostface from Scream, T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Conan the Barbarian. The movie characters are played by actors known from the big screen, namely Roger L. Jackson, Robert Patrick, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In addition, it is possible to perform a special finishing attack called an Animality, known from the third installment of the series. After triggering it, the victorious character takes the form of a huge animal (like a mantis, a hyena, or a scorpion), to then deal with the rival in a bloody way. This feature was made available for the owners of base Mortal Kombat 1 as part of a free update. It became unlocked on the day of the DLC premiere.
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is a non-standalone add-on, so it requires the base game to run. It is worth mentioning that the content of Kombat Pack 2 is available exclusively in a set with the expansion.

Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is not without its flaws but it will appeal to most hardcore fans thanks to strong performance by the actors behind Havik and Noob Saibot, excellently directed cutscenes and the brutal animalities.
Impulsegamer: 3.5 / 5 by Gareth Newnham
Khaos Reigns in this by the numbers expansion that gives back exactly what you put into it.
MonsterVine: 3.5 / 5 by Spencer Legacy
Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is a pleasant enough expansion to the latest Mortal Kombat game. The new characters are a blast to use and the story, while somewhat all over the place, has enough fun moments to be worth a go. If you didn’t dig Mortal Kombat 1 already, this expansion won’t change your mind, but it’s a good time for those who are already into the title.
