Release Date: December 10, 2020
A remake of an adventure game from 1993, in which the player finds himself on a beautiful island covered with mystery. Myst is a new version of the original, enriched with an improved graphic design, also prepared especially for Oculus Touch controllers.
Myst is a new installment of the classic first-person adventure game, produced by the independent studio Cyan, the authors of the original Myst and the warmly received sequel Riven. In response to the fans' requests, the developers prepared a remake of the cult adventure using the Unreal Engine. The updated version allows the player to immerse themselves again in the secrets of the island, also allowing them to explore the world using VR technology for Oculus Quest.
In terms of plot, Myst is not much different from the original. The player again moves to the island, which he decides to explore. Over time, he finds the books, drawn up by a certain Atrus, enabling him to travel between worlds called Ages. In each of these worlds, the main character discovers new clues, allowing him to gradually learn about the history of the island.
The gameplay takes place from a first person perspective (FPP), using the classic point-and-click interface (for the PC version). This time Myst is also available for VR sets, so you can play it standing up or using the whole room. This will increase the gaming experience and the feeling of being in the game world.
The goal is to explore the available worlds and collect clues about the history of the island. It also has to deal with various puzzles, which this time, if the appropriate option is activated, can be generated at random. The end of the Myst is dependent on the decisions that the player makes during the game.
Myst is a three-dimensional edition of the original with a refreshed graphic design. Unreal Engine was used to develop this version of the game. The new version of the cult adventure game includes new graphics, audio and interaction options, and allows you to explore the surreal world using VR technology.

PC Gamer: 68 / 100 by Christopher Livingston
This modern remake of the classic puzzle game doesn't stop it from feeling out of date.
Worth Playing: 7.5 / 10 by Cody Medellin
Myst still holds up after all this time, despite not being the definitive edition of the game. The puzzles are still smartly done, even if they can be quite obtuse, and the tranquil vibe of the environment and presentation remains effective in both regular and VR modes. The inclusion of both movement styles and different control methods is great for accessibility, even if most people will default to the old methods, but the lack of improvements to a few areas and removal of certain things from realMyst is a letdown. This is still a fine title that is worthy of being in an adventure gamer's library, especially if they've never played it before, but realMyst remains the better buy if you intend on playing with a keyboard and mouse. That said, we're all secretly hoping that this causes Cyan to revisit and remaster the other titles instead of visiting the original title yet again in the future.
Wccftech: 8.6 / 10
The Myst remake does many things right. Unfortunately, it still has a few snags that would keep me from recommending it to veterans over realMyst: Masterpiece Edition. Likewise, most of the adjustments and revisions are made with veteran players in mind while the newer players may feel alienated by the lack of accessibility options.
