Narcosis is an underwater survival horror released on PC, PS4 and XONE. It has been developed by Honor Code studio.
Narcosis puts us in the shoes of a professional diver in heavy suit designed for descending into great depths. While he performs a task for underwater laboratory, an accident happens that results in him being abandoned on the ocean floor. He now must find way out of this place before his oxygen runs out.
PC, PS4 and XONE’s Narcosis is an action adventure game from survival horror genre. We explore locations, fight hostile animals and solve occasional puzzles. We observe the world form first-person perspective, which enhances the claustrophobic atmosphere of the game, along with the fact that moving in heavy suit gives a feeling of being in a moving coffin.
A key component of the gameplay is managing your supply of oxygen. It drops faster in certain conditions, e.g. physical effort, damage-induced stress or entering places with greater water pressure. Having oxygen deficiency, the brain stops functioning properly, resulting in hallucinations that make navigating and surviving even more difficult.
There are a few items that we can use, like flares, flashlights and a knife. The latter is especially useful during encounters with enemies. There are no imagined creatures in the game, as the developers thought that animals dwelling in the deep are terrifying enough.
Narcosis uses popular Unity3D engine and supports virtual reality technology, though the latter is not required to play the game.
