ORX is a tower defense game, with card games and the roguelike elements. The game was developed by indie studio johnbell, inspired primarily by the games Carcassonne and Slay the Spire. It was published by Critical Reflex.

Plot

ORX takes us on a journey to a dark fantasy world and makes us stand at the head of one of four factions, which must defend their domains against the invasion of the title monsters - ORX.

Game mechanics

In ORX we observe the action from an isometric perspective. Game takes place on maps covered by a grid of square fields, and our primary goal is to keep the kingdom safe. To this end, we play cards that allow us to build walls and other defensive structures, lay roads and erect buildings that increase our income, such as farms or villages. Besides, thanks to them we can summon units to the battlefield to defend our domains.

In total, more than 300 cards were made available to us, and they were divided into sets assigned to each faction. In order to unlock a given card, you need to buy it, spending the accumulated gold. Wanting to fill up the treasury faster, we need to constantly expand the area occupied by our domains, so over time we can erect more and more production buildings. Besides, in this way more crypts are within our reach, where we can find valuable rewards and powerful artifacts that allow us to change the fate of many a battle.

Speaking of skirmishes - in the game we are hindered by successive waves of ORX, which invade our kingdom, destroying everything they encounter on their way. For this reason, in the pursuit of gold, you shouldn't forget to defend your lands; sometimes it's even worth considering halting expansion, since the larger the area we occupy, the harder it is to protect it from further invasions. Our kingdoms are attacked by more than 30 types of enemies, among which we will find both cannon fodder dying in wholesale quantities and much more powerful units with unique abilities.

Game modes

The pillar of the ORX game is the story campaign. It consists of three acts, differentiated not only by the challenges we face, but also by the biomes and seasons in which the action takes place. In addition, an advanced difficulty mode awaits those willing to play, designed for seasoned strategists.

Technical aspects

Graphics in ORX is made in a cartoonish, but at the same time rather dark style.
