The game offers a rather comical twist on the concepts created by the Loner from Providence. The players assume the role of a young witch, who gets admitted to the titular university of Miskatonic. She wants to use the knowledge gained over the course of her studies to summon one of the Outer Gods, Shub-Niggurath.

The game utilizes a first person view and its mechanics do not differ much from those of a typical hidden-object adventure games.
