Spain's Inverge Studios relied on a colorful, friendly aesthetic in its first two creations, the Effie and Creatures of Ava games. In creating Peregrino, the Valencia-based team decided to take a turn in the opposite direction. What we have here is a survival horror game, in which the beauty of a forest bathed in sunlight collides with the omnipresent darkness once night comes.
In Peregrino we view the events in an isometric view. During the gameplay , we play the role of the leader of a group of pilgrims whose caravan is heading through a dense forest to a place called New Eden. Our task is not only to navigate through the thicket, but also to ensure that we and the other members of the expedition can survive the next day... and the night that comes after it.
When the sun shines, we can make our way through overgrown locations with relative ease, hunting for game as a source of food, defending ourselves from predator attacks, and gathering useful resources. The latter allow you to manufacture equipment items and upgrade the items you already own, as well as improve your mobile base by, among other things, reinforcing walls or expanding luggage space.
The W?z is not only the main means of locomotion, but also the command center where we settle down before nightfall. It is home to our character and his companions, each of whom has his own personality and history, as well as skills. We must take care of their needs and morale, while keeping in mind that their deaths are permanent.
And death is not hard to come by here, because while we are relatively safe during the day, after nightfall the situation changes drastically to our disadvantage. Divine guardians who are grotesque, terrifying creatures begin to reign in the forest. Due to the fact that they gain strength after dusk, we must be on guard if we decide to stand eye to eye with them.
Peregrino takes us to a fantastic world inspired by the 19th century, and above all gothic horror and religious folklore. The story of the pilgrim and his companions, who are heading to New Eden, is shaped by our decisions and actions.
