An adventure game with elements of the arcade, designed for fun in cooperation. At Rite of Ilk, we take control of two children heading to the top of the Ceremonial Tower to devote ourselves there to serve the gods. The cooperation is forced on them by the presence of a rope, which they are connected with - they can use it both during the exploration of exotic places, as well as in order to solve puzzles.

Rite of Ilk is an adventure game with arcade elements and a debut project of the independent Dutch team at Turtleneck Studios. The production was created with the PC platform in mind.

Story

Rite of Ilk takes us on a journey to the fantasy land of Azath, whose inhabitants - the title Ilk tribe - not only enjoyed a life of happiness and abundance, but also managed to unite in the face of danger and situations requiring cooperation. The gods liked it and entrusted them with powerful masks to help them survive and turn shoddy villages into powerful, technologically advanced metropolises. Unfortunately, Ilk became antisocial and, to top it all, they started to fight for power, which made the deities mad.

To atone, each year the tribe sends two children to complete a sacred ritual and climb up to the top of the Ceremonial Tower in the heart of the land to offer themselves there for service. Two such chosen ones are controlled by players - the brave, athletic and curious Mokhu and the sincere, selfless and intelligent Tarh. In order to complete this difficult task, the protagonists need to work together at every step.

Mechanics

In Rite of Ilk we observe the action from various cinematic shots. The cooperation forced on the two main characters is reflected in the mechanics of the game - the title was developed entirely for co-operative multiplayer mode. Exploration of the locations, often requiring dexterity and perceptiveness (there is no shortage of platform elements), as well as solving puzzles, plays a paramount role in the course of the game. Puzzles consist primarily of manipulating switches, as well as moving and positioning objects. Heroes often make use of the rope, which improves their mobility (it can be used by them as a kind of zipline) or helps to solve many problems.

Game modes

Rite of Ilk can only be played in the company of a second player, either across the Internet or on split screen. The game does not have a mode for solo players.

Technical aspects

Rite of Ilk is powered by the Unreal Engine 4 technology, thanks to which the three-dimensional graphics of this title present a high quality. It is worth mentioning that the language of Azath, inspired by African, Indian and Arabic dialects, was developed especially for the game.
