Adventure 24 July 2014

Another installment in the series of Japanese survival horror visual novels developed by 5pb. Corpse Party: Blood Drive takes place after the events shown in Book of Shadows and concentrates on one of its protagonists, Ayumi Shinozaki. The girl's new adventure starts when her aunt visits her. She informs her that since centuries the duty of the Shinozaki family is to guard the mysterious Book of Shadows which, should it fall in the wrong hands, might lead the world to doom. The artifact is said to be hidden in an old mansion of her relatives and Ayumi embarks on a journey to find it. The mechanics of the game combine solutions used in previous installments of the series. The action is shown from an isometric perspective and the gameplay focuses on exploration, riddle solving and making decisions that impact the plot. Since the game was released on new generation of Sony handheld consoles, it features much better graphics, retaining its manga style, however.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows

Adventure 09 January 2011

A sequel to the Japanese game developed by studio 5pb. in 2010. The game combines old school, two-dimensional horror with the visual novel genre. The story of Corpse Party: Book of Shadows relates to events depicted in the original game and sheds new light on the plot and characters that were shown there. The game consists of seven chapters which present separate stories in which the protagonists from the original game participate. Various scenarios continue or precede the story of Corpse Party and or depict its alternative versions. In contrast to the first game in the series, which was similar to classic, two-dimensional jRPGs, this time the game is a regular adventure game with a point-and-click interface and visual novel elements.

Adventure 12 August 2010

A visual novel adventure game developed by studio 5pg. The game is an improved version of the independent game created by Makoto Kedouin and originally released in 1996. Corpse Party takes place in a high school building that was built on the ruins of an old grade school in which a terrible and mysterious crime has occurred. One day, due to unexplainable events, a group of students enters a terrible and grotesque version of their school in which the corridors are filled with decomposing corpses. Trapped in the building, the main characters must face the mysteries of the building and the revenge-seeking ghosts of the dead children. The game uses typical gameplay mechanics of visual novel games, although it also contains exploration and even action sequences. The story has several different endings that depend on the choices made by the player.
