Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a platforming action game that belongs to the series started back in 1987. This project is the result of a collaboration between Lizardcube studio (known for titles such as Streets of Rage 4) and Sega, the company that oversees the brand.
The main character of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is Joe Musashi, a well-known ninja warrior to fans of the series. After the end of the previous adventure he returned home. The protagonist discovers that his village has been burned down, and its inhabitants - turned into stones. Burning with a desire for revenge, Musashi embarks on a dangerous journey to avenge his clan and confront a powerful evil.
In Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, we watch the action from the side. We go through various locations, including the hero's burnt village, a sandy desert, and a military base. We jump on platforms and avoid traps and terrain obstacles, as well as eliminate hordes of enemies.
During dynamic battles, Musashi primarily uses a katana called Oborozuki and kunai blades. He also relies on his martial arts skills - ninja and ninpo. We must demonstrate agility and reflexes in the game, avoiding enemy attacks and linking our moves into effective combinations.
As we progress, we collect amulets that allow us to improve Musashi's abilities. Additionally, along the way, we acquire tools that give us access to new paths.
The graphic design of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is maintained in a cartoon style.

MMORPG.com: 8.5 / 10
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is very much a ‘what you see is what you get’ type of game, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The core experience is incredibly fun and the optional challenges can deliver a rush of adrenaline, even if they can feel a bit over-tuned. The biggest drawback is that once it’s over, you’ll wish there was more.
TheSixthAxis: 9 / 10 by Adrian Burrows
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is the game that a legend like Joe Musashi deserves. Fast, frenetic and utterly absorbing, this is how you bring a long-dead series back to life. Lizardcube have set a new benchmark in 2D platforming and in the process have me salivating at the prospect of Sega franchises they could tackle next.
Cloud Dosage: 4.3 / 5 by Jon Scarr
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance brings Joe Musashi back with fast combat, smooth platforming, and a sharp visual style. The story keeps things light but still adds personality, thanks to Joe’s silence and the over-the-top villains. Extra modes like boss rush and challenge stages give you plenty to do once the credits roll. A few small hiccups don’t change the fact that this is one of Sega’s best revivals in years.
