Shuffle Tactics is a tactical RPG, enriched with mechanics borrowed from card games and the roguelike genre. The game was developed by the independent French studio Club Sandwich. The main sources of inspiration for its creators were primarily the games Final Fantasy Tactics and Slay the Spire.

Gameplay

In Shuffle Tactics the action is shown in an isometric view.

Turn-based combat

The main element of the gameplay are turn-based skirmishes with opponents. Battles take place in arenas covered with a grid of square fields. We lead heroes chosen by us and their assistants.

Cards, heroes and their abilities

Each of the heroes has an individual set of skills and strong and weak points. The same applies to their companions, among whom we will find a scout, a necromancer, or an assassin. They are reflected in decks of cards associated with specific attacks and abilities that we play during combat. The key to success is therefore not only the proper positioning of units on the battlefield, but also composing such a set of cards, the individual elements of which will complement each other.

A slow rollout of characters and decks creates a rather plain early game, but Shuffle Tactics shines once everything opens up.

Final Weapon: 2.5 / 5 by Jordan Brown

Shuffle Tactics fails its art style and interesting game mechanics with an unpolished UI and a multitude of bugs. There is an interesting game to be found here, but asking players to trudge through the horrible camera, visual and mechanical bugs, and poor UI decisions to get to it is inexcusable. Hopefully, after a few patches and a camera overhaul, Shuffle Tactics will be worth the time and effort, but as it stands now, there are too many other strong roguelike/deckbuilders on the market that your time would be better spent playing.

Gamer Escape: 5 / 10 by Eliot Lefebvre

I don’t think the game is truly atrocious, and I think if you’re in need of another roguelike game and you have played all of the offerings out there, this will… perform as advertised. But I can’t really recommend it to others.
