The fifth edition of the Civilization series traditionally brings big changes, both in the audiovisual side of the game as well as in its content.

Considerable changes were made starting with user interface, which can now be described as clear, minimalistic, and user friendly. Not all features and functions are available immediately on the screen, but even those hidden can be accessed with a single click of the mouse. Notifications are now in form of icons, so you no longer have to wade through a long lists of text messages. All of these changes, however, only serve to improve the controls. This by no means makes the gameplay mechanics any shallower than before.

For the first time in the history of the series hexagonal grid on the world map was introduced. This provides players with more tactical possibilities during warfare. New presentation of the world also allows much more intuitive exploration and development of your territory.

Strategy

The first major expansion for the 2010’s strategy game by Firaxis Games. Sid Meier’s Civilization V: Gods & Kings offers a myriad of novelties, among which the expanded religion module is probably the most important one. It introduces a new aspect to the game, namely faith, thanks to which we can establish and develop our own religion. This, in turn, allows us to gain useful bonuses and gives us access to specific units (missionaries, inquisitors) or buildings (cathedrals, mosques). In the game, there are 27 units, 12 buildings, 9 Wonders, and 9 previously unavailable nations such as the Dutch, Celts, and Mayans. The players also received three exclusive scenarios: the fall of Rome, medieval era, and a steampunk Victorian world. Moreover, the developers reworked such gameplay aspects as free cities, diplomacy (the possibility of hiring spies and agents) and combat (better artificial intelligence).
