Sonic Frontiers is the next installment in the series of arcade games about the title character, Sonic the Hedgehog. It was released by the Japanese company SEGA, while cooperating studio Sonic Team is responsible for development. Work on the title began in 2017 after the release of Sonic Forces. The script for the game was written by the creator of the official Sonic comics - Ian Flyn.

Plot

The action of the title takes place in Starfall Islands - the cradle of an ancient civilization, whose impressive ancient buildings enrich the vast areas of the archipelago. It is here that Sonic's eternal enemy - Doctor Eggman - makes an intriguing discovery. He finds a mysterious artifact on one of the isolated islands, where he decides to install an AI program to hack his system. The result, however, is the activation of the island's protection protocol, which absorbs the man.

Easy Allies: 7.5 / 10 by Brad Ellis

Sonic Frontiers brings the Blue Blur to new horizons. And while it has problems, it's by far the most enjoyable and ambitious 3D entry in a long time.

IGN: 7 / 10 by Travis Northup

Sonic Frontiers is an ambitious open-world adventure that mostly succeeds at mixing up the Sonic formula, even when some of its ideas fall flat.

Full Review

GamesBeat: 4 / 5 by Mike Minotti

Overall, however, I’m impressed with Sonic Frontiers. If I put my nostalgia-tinted glasses aside when it comes to my affection for the Adventure games, I feel pretty comfortable calling this Sonic’s best 3D effort. I hope Sega continues using and refining this open world formula. Who knows, we might even get two good 3D Sonic games in a row if they do.
