Cobra is the title of a science fiction manga, created by Buichi Terasawa and started back in 1978. Over time, it has seen a number of adaptations, including in the form of anime, as well as a video game by Magic Pockets studio and Microids company. We are talking about the action platformer titled Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening.

Gameplay

In Space Adventure Cobra: The Awakening, we watch the action from the side.

Space adventure

We play as the titular Cobra - a space pirate. In the company of Lady Armaroid, the protagonist follows the trail of three sisters connected with the treasure sought by the Guild of Space Pirates. This is a high stakes game, as along the way the hero uncovers a secret threatening the entire universe.

Dynamic gameplay

The adventure leads us through various planets. We jump on platforms, avoid traps and bypass terrain obstacles, as well as fight numerous enemies. The gameplay is dynamic and forces us to be constantly moving and showing off our agility and reflexes. This applies to both exploration and combat.

Cobra's weapons and gadgets

On the battlefield, we make use of the futuristic Psychogun (a laser gun built into Cobra's arm) and the Colt Python 77 (a revolver). Additionally, the character can use gadgets in the form of a cigar and a small anchor (rope with a hook). The game allows us to choose one of three difficulty levels.

If you’re already invested in Cobra’s universe as I am, you’ll find things to enjoy here. If you’re not, this probably isn’t the game that’s going to win you over.
