Mechanics

The game is played in real time. Before we start the game we have to select one of the few races that have unique technologies, biological characteristics and cultural traditions. However, many of those characteristics that define a given faction can be modified. Regardless of our choice we start with a weak nation that has little to no influence in the galaxy. Our goal is to turn that nation into a powerful empire. This can be achieved by making the right choices in economy, diplomacy and military issues.

Players can colonize planets in real time, extract resources and develop cities and technology or production centers. The game has a very complex economy system that allows players to earn money in various ways. It is also important to research new technologies and create alliances with other empires.

Sooner or later we must take care of our army, regardless of whether we are the aggressor, or we only want to defend our territories. Hundreds and sometimes even thousands of units can participate in real time battles. If you want to win you must make a good use of the ship construction system. Here, you can manually select hulls, armor, weapons, engines and onboard systems.

Game modes

Besides the single player mode Star Ruler 2 also offers a multiplayer. Up to twenty-eight players can participate in online battles. There is also an option to have some players be controlled by the AI.
