Stellaris Nexus is a 4X turn-based strategy game, designed for short sessions lasting less than an hour. It was develoepd by an indie studio Whatboy Games (also responsible for Trials of Fire) and published by Paradox Interactive, as part of the Paradox Arc initiative.

Plot

Stellaris Nexus is set in a sci-fi universe created for the Stellaris series. After the fall of the Tzynn Empire, the seat of galactic power - the planet Nexus - remains empty. Other powers all desire it, as whoever controls Nexus essentially owns the galactic throne. The player runs one of the factions, their task being to be proclaimed the galactic emperor.

Mechanics

Stellaris Nexus is a turn-based game. At first glance, it doesn't differ much from other 4X turn-based strategies. Though we start off the game modestly, controlling only our home planet, over time we begin to develop, researching new technologies, expanding and fielding powerful fleets.

It's up to us how we'll approach our main task - conquering Nexus. We can create a military nation and achieve our goal by force, consolidate our power through trade, negotiations and diplomacy or do something in-between; covertly sabotage our opponents through bluffing, deception and diplomatic intrigues.

The game distinguishes itself from similar games from its genre through its emphasis on session length. The game was designed so that a single session would not last longer than an hour.

Game modes

Stellaris Nexus was created with multiplayer in mind; the game supports up to six people at once.

Technical aspects

The visuals of Stellaris Nexus are rather modest. Though the cosmic views and space battles don't look particularly impressive, we'll spend most of our time watching the interface anyway.
