Midjiwan is an independent development studio based in Stockholm. It was founded in 2016 and gained global recognition thanks to The Battle of Polytopia, a 4X turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy, "blocky" universe. It allows us to take control of one of the diverse tribes and lead it to victory and domination over the others.

Gameplay

In The Battle of Polytopia the action is viewed in isometric view.

Tribes

The gameplay takes place on the Square, which is a flat piece of land where the titular Polytopians live. They are divided into tribes, each of which has a unique appearance, characteristics, motivations, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Among them, we will find Bardurs who love to hang out in taverns, conservative Xin-Xi, or Hoodricks specializing in archery.

Maps and modes

The procedurally generated maps, on which the game takes place, are also diverse. We can choose their sizes (from tiny to gigantic) and specifics (opting for dry land, an area with a lake, continents, archipelago, water world or supercontinent Pangea). There are three game modes waiting to be tested - perfection, domination, and creative mode, each of which is governed by unique rules.

Gameplay

The gameplay takes place in turn-based mode, and involves the gradual development of the tribe chosen by us and expanding its sphere of influence. In order to dominate over the other tribes, we need to gather resources, build, cultivate the land, as well as conduct technological research and military operations. The culmination of all this is diplomacy and espionage.
