The main cons of the game

  • Repetitive Gameplay: Many reviews noted that the quests are often repetitive, primarily consisting of fetch quests and basic combat, leading to a monotonous experience.
  • Lack of Structure: The absence of traditional level design and a coherent story progression disappointed players who expected a more linear gameplay experience similar to previous LEGO titles.

  • Character Abilities: Unlike previous LEGO games where characters had unique abilities, this game reduced characters to skins with limited functionality, which disappointed fans.
  • Puzzles and Challenges: Users missed the intricate puzzles and challenges that were a hallmark of earlier LEGO games, as the new crafting system felt underdeveloped and formulaic.
  • Narrative Depth: Many reviewers felt that the story was poorly told and lacked the charm and humor of the original LEGO Movie, making it feel like a rushed adaptation.
  • Loot Box System: The introduction of a loot box mechanic for unlocking characters and items was generally disliked, as it felt unnecessary and detracted from the traditional LEGO gameplay experience.

Summary

  • Overall, while "The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame" has some appealing aspects, particularly for younger players and fans of open-world exploration, it largely falls short of expectations set by previous LEGO games, leading to a mixed reception among users.
