A first-person detective adventure game from the developers of The Darkside Detective series. Spooky Doorway is a game development studio from Ireland, known for its two point-and-click adventure games under The Darkside Detective brand. In The Seance of Blake Manor, the creators have moved away from the pixel art style characteristic of their previous works. This time they decided on a three-dimensional graphic design using cel-shading technique.

Gameplay

In The Seance of Blake Manor the action is viewed from a first-person perspective (FPP).

Conducting an investigation

The driving force of the game is the investigation led by the main character. We explore the titular manor (the game allows us to freely move between locations) and question suspects. Additionally, we gather evidence and any clues that bring us closer to solving the main mystery.

Time as a key "resource"

The situation is complicated by the fact that our main "resource" here is time, which advances with every action we take. Moreover, individual characters operate based on their own schedules. Since we cannot participate in all events, we must carefully plan our steps to be in the right places at the right times.

Without a doubt one of my favourite experiences of 2025, The Séance of Blake Manor is a rich and beautiful narrative puzzle game where you're fully in charge of your own detective work. Blending together stellar storytelling with Irish folklore and spooky mysteries, it's a game that's going to stay with me for a long time to come.

NoobFeed: 80 / 100 by Subaiyta Jahan

The Séance of Blake Manor aims to improve rather than reimagine the detective genre. Confidence, not complication, is what makes it unique. It is a gothic mystery about faith, reason, and human fragility, and it understands exactly what kind of story it wants to convey.

Hey Poor Player: 5 / 5 by Andrew Thornton

If you’re looking for a creepy mystery, you won’t do much better than The Séance of Blake Manor. It looks great, it sounds fantastic, and it offers a wonderful cast of characters who you’ll love investigating. From the first time I sat down with it until I figured out all the mysteries hiding in that hotel I couldn’t stop playing it. This is one of the very best games of 2025.

  • Engaging Story and Characters: Users appreciate the depth of the narrative, with a compelling plot and well-developed characters, each with their own mysteries and backstories.
  • Gameplay Mechanics: The time management mechanic, where time only progresses with actions, is seen as a positive aspect that adds strategic depth without being overly punishing.
  • Intuitive UI and Mind Map: The game features a user-friendly interface that tracks evidence and leads, making it easier for players to keep track of their investigations.
  • Voice Acting and Writing: The voice acting is generally well-received, and the writing is noted for being engaging and immersive.

The main cons of the game

  • Linear Gameplay: Many users feel that the game is too linear and hand-holding, limiting the player's ability to make independent deductions or explore freely.
  • Bugs and Technical Issues: Several players reported bugs, including progression-breaking issues, and long loading times between areas, which detracted from the overall experience.
  • Simplistic Puzzles: Some players found the puzzles to be too easy or lacking in challenge, reducing the sense of accomplishment when solving mysteries.
  • Repetitive Dialogue and Missed Opportunities: Players noted that some dialogue felt repetitive or irrelevant, and that they often missed interesting conversations due to the time pressure.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Fast Travel Options: Users expressed a desire for a fast travel mechanic to reduce the time spent navigating between locations, especially given the frequent loading screens.
  • Greater Freedom in Investigations: Players wanted more opportunities for exploration and independent problem-solving, rather than being guided through the narrative.
  • Improved Detective Logic: Some suggested that the game could benefit from a more dynamic approach to clue gathering, allowing for more nuanced deductions rather than a straightforward collection of evidence.
  • Search Functionality: A search feature for the evidence log was requested to help players quickly find relevant clues and information.

Summary

  • Overall, *The Séance of Blake Manor* is appreciated for its storytelling and atmosphere but is critiqued for its linearity and some technical issues.
