Although the golden era of classic dungeon crawler RPGs fell on the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, in the following decades fans of the genre still could not complain about a shortage of its representatives. One of them is Thysiastery from independent Finnish studio Dirga Games, which has been enriched with solutions taken from roguelikes.
In Thysiastery, we view the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). During the game we stand at the head of a team of four characters who are bearers of the so-called Znamen, who venture into the abyssal Labyrinth, facing the dangers lurking there and discovering its secrets.
The adventure leads through dark forests, underwater cities and other locations. The latter are procedurally generated, as are the team members.
Clashes with opponents, most of whom are nightmarish creatures, take place in turn-based mode. During them we have to skillfully use the abilities of individual heroes and heroines, trying to make use of their strengths and the weaknesses of adversaries.
A unique ability system has been implemented in the game, which allows characters to transfer their skills to each other. Taking advantage of its capabilities is important because death is permanent here.
Those looking for a greater challenge or wishing to lower the difficulty level a bit can take advantage of various modifiers that adapt the gameplay to their preferences.
The graphic design of Thysiastery was made in pixel art technique, whose colors and aesthetics are reminiscent of items straight from 16-bit platforms.
