Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. is the second remastered version of Virtua Fighter 5 - the fifth installment of the popular fighting game series launched in 1993. This project was based on Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown (also a remaster). This newer version stands out due to a number of previously unavailable features and a new graphics engine - Dragon Engine. It is the result of a collaboration between Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA AM2, both belonging to SEGA company.

Plot

In Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown / R.E.V.O. we are participating in the V world fighting tournament. The best warriors from around the globe were invited and it was financed by the J6 organization. The company does not have particularly pure intentions - it intends to find the one who previously dared to free Vanessa, whom it had kidnapped, and also to test its new combat machine with human characteristics - V-Dural. It is our responsibility to thwart its plans for world domination, and consequently - to win the tournament.

Twisted Voxel: 7 / 10 by Salal Awan

A solid but uneven return for a classic fighter, Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. shines with its deep, technical gameplay and excellent rollback netcode but falters with stripped-down content and a lackluster tutorial. While its 3D combat remains engaging, the absence of single-player modes and controversial customization cuts leave fans wanting more. A promising yet flawed revival.

Cloud Dosage: 4.4 / 5 by Jon Scarr

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O refines the classic fighter with rollback netcode, balance updates, and sharp visuals. Its strategic combat remains strong, but missing single-player modes and the lack of crossplay hold it back from feeling like a full upgrade. While it’s the best version for competitive play, it still feels like a temporary step before a true sequel.

COGconnected: 80 / 100 by Jaz Sagoo

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. isn’t a revolutionary overhaul, but it refines an already exceptional fighter with sharper visuals, rollback netcode, and improved combat. While these enhancements make for a smoother and more competitive experience, especially online, some players may be disappointed by the lack of new game modes.

The main cons of the game

  • Single Player Content: Many users express disappointment with the lack of depth in solo content, criticizing the Arcade Mode for being repetitive and lacking randomization or any significant story elements.
  • Graphics Issues: Some players feel that while the graphics are technically improved, character models (e.g., Akira's face) look worse than in previous versions.
  • Unlockable Content: Users are frustrated by the presence of paywalls for unlockables and feel that the game lacks sufficient content for single players.
  • Difficulty in Mastery: While the game is fun to learn, some users note that it can be difficult to master, which might deter casual players.

  • More Depth and Progression: There is a call for more depth in solo gameplay, including character progression and unlockable content that isn't locked behind paywalls.
  • Customization Options: Some players feel that the focus on customization items detracts from more substantial game features, indicating a preference for more meaningful gameplay enhancements.
