Wanderer is an adventure game with action elements, which allows us to take part in the most important events in the history of mankind. The game is the result of cooperation between the New Zealand studios M-Theory and Oddboy and was created for virtual reality sets. The source of inspiration for the developers were, above all, TV series focusing on similar themes, such as Dark and Quantum Leap.
Wanderer offers us a grim, truly apocalyptic vision of the future. The action of the game begins in 2061, when the world stands on the brink of destruction. The main character is Asher Neumann, who, while cleaning his grandfather's devastated flat, discovers a mysterious message and a strange, somehow self-aware watch named Samuel. As it turns out, with the help of Samuel he will be able to go back in time and change the course of the most important historical events, thus influencing the future and preventing the cataclysm that brought mankind to the brink of total collapse.
In Wanderer we observe the action from a first person perspective (FPP). Traveling in time, we go to different eras and different parts of our globe (and beyond). The game allows us to visit, among others, South American Tikal from 1525, where we discover the secrets of the Mayans, play a concert at Woodstock Festival in 1969, and even take part in the first landing of a man on the moon and make a "giant leap for mankind". Taking part in these historical events, we meet famous figures such as Nikola Tesla, who we help with his research into electricity. In each of these places we have to perform specific, sometimes seemingly trivial activities. Although most often our role comes down to interacting with the environment, solving puzzles and listening to the people we talk to, sometimes we also have to use weapons, as it happens in Bleicherode at the end of World War II.
The graphic design of Wanderer was kept in a realistic style and presents a high level of quality. Game requires a virtual reality set to work.
