Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is the second RPG set in the titular science fiction universe (created by Games Workshop), developed by Owlcat Games studio. We are talking about developers specialized in classic representatives of the RPG genre, with isometric view and team gameplay. They previously developed the WH40K: Rogue Trader project, released at the end of 2023.

Gameplay

Similar to previous works by the Owlcat Games team, the action in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy is presented in an isometric view.

Gathering a team

The game allows us to become an acolyte of the Inquisition and lead a team investigating the dark secrets of the Calixis sector. In our four-person group, there can be a variety of characters, which are diversified in terms of personality, abilities, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Each of them also influences the course of history in a specific way. They include veterans of the guard from the world of Catachan known as the death planet, as well as xenos of the Kroot kind - a bird-mercenary.

Turn-based battles

Companions are indispensable when it comes to reaching for a weapon. The game world is teeming with opponents with whom we engage in turn-based battles. The key to success on the battlefield is not only the proper positioning of team members and skillful use of their advantages, but also taking care of morale. Maintaining the latter at an appropriately high level maximizes the combat potential of our team. Additionally, we need to identify the weak points of our enemies and use them against them.

Conducting investigations and making choices

Investigating and eradicating heresy from the Calixis sector is not solely about fighting. The goals set before us are also achieved by conducting investigations. Individual investigations involve the need to look into every corner, conduct conversations and interrogate suspects, as well as gradually gather clues and evidence.
