World of Anterra is an open-world RPG developed by the indie 81monkeys studio. The development of this production was made possible, among other things, thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.

Plot

World of Anterra takes us on a journey to the titular fantasy universe. Anterra is divided into regions, each of which has a distinct culture, history and religion. In addition, the inhabitants of each of them are guided by one rule - a dogma that affects all aspects of their lives. In addition to humans, this world is inhabited by ancient beings such as gorians (who once ruled it), fairies (whose existence is doubted by many) and dragons (powerful beasts, unseen by anyone for generations).

Game mechanics

World of Anterra offera a vast world, consisting of both manually created locations and procedurally generated places. Exploring Anterra, we get to know its inhabitants and conduct conversations with them, carry out various tasks, fight turn-based battles with enemies, as well as develop our character and gain increasingly better equipment. At the same time the game gives us a free hand as to the ways of completing individual tasks and the path of character development; it depends only on us whether we lead into battle a hero specialized in close combat, a seasoned archer or a mage.

At the same time, it is worth remembering that we are not doomed to a lonely crossing, as various companions join us as we progress. In addition to the tasks pushing the plot forward and side missions, optional activities await checking out; in breaks from the big adventures we can indulge in, among other things, fishing, hunting, treasure hunting and even building. In addition, a crafting system has been implemented in the game, thanks to which we can cook tasty meals and produce new equipment or improve the equipment we already have.

The developers have made an effort to make their work not only stand out from other games of its kind, but also to make it as accessible as possible. We can explore the land of Anterra directly, looking closely at the places we visit, or from the world map. This second method is much faster, and is made even more attractive by the ability to instantly move to the view of the location where the protagonist is at any given moment. In addition, battles with enemies take place here much faster than in other turn-based RPGs, and conversations with neutral characters are based on our asking questions based on keywords. Interestingly, we can create the latter ourselves, so we can often gain access to hidden information held by a given NPC. The authors have also made an effort to limit the interface to the necessary minimum; for example, instead of clicking through the inventory menu, we view the contents of the backpack or penetrated chests or packages directly in the game world.

Game modes

World of Anterra can be played solo or in co-op mode over the Internet.

Technical aspects

World of Anterra features colorful, pixel art graphics. The visual layer of the game is enhanced by modern solutions, such as dynamic lighting and shadows or a full day cycle. We can also listen to a high quality soundtrack.
