A remake of Yakuza 3, which was originally released back in 2009. Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties is not only a thorough refreshment of the adventures of Kiryu from the original game. There's also a separate Dark Ties campaign, featuring Yoshitaka Mine (villain from the main game) as a separate protagonist.
The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio team is developing the Like a Dragon / Yakuza series not only by creating new installments, but also by refreshing older productions under this banner. After Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, the Japanese team prepared a remake of the third part of the series, namely Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties described here. We are talking about a package that includes an upgraded version of the base version of Yakuza 3, as well as Dark Ties which is a separate production.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties stands out from the original due to its thoroughly refreshed graphics. The developers also focused on the narrative layer, which was enriched with new story plots and cut-scenes. In addition to this, the remake offers a new combat system.
Dark Ties is a separate story dedicated to Yoshitace Mine - a character known from the "base game". After the fall of his company, he allowed himself to be drawn into the dark underworld of the Yakuza. Nonetheless, the desire to find true ties remains strong in him, and his search forces him to engage in boxing matches and pushes him to experience various adventures.
In Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we visit locations with an open structure (inspired by the Makishi district of Ryukyugai in Okinawa and Kamurocho modeled on Tokyo's Kabukicho). Exploring them on foot, we complete story quests that push the plot forward, as well as participate in a multitude of missions and side activities (such as bowling or billiards, arcades, karaoke or arena fights).
Dynamic fights with opponents play an important role here. We eliminate enemies by fighting with fists and using melee weapons, as well as linking our attacks into spectacular combinations. As we progress, we improve our gear and also develop the protagonist.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 allows us to follow the story of Kazuma Kiryu. Corrupt politicians linked to the yakuza are trying to take over the orphanage he founded on Okinawa Island. To make matters worse, Daigo Dojima, the leader of the Tojo clan, is shot by a man who looks just like the protagonist's deceased father. In this way, the hero once again gets entangled in a gangster intrigue.

Yakuza (Japanese. Ryu ga Gotoku - Like a Dragon) is a series that began as TPP action adventure games, while in 2020 began a love affair with the jRPG genre. The essence of gameplay in productions under this banner are spectacular clashes, in which we mostly use our own fists, white weapons such as clubs or samurai swords, as well as elements of the environment, such as trash cans or bicycles. Firearms are present, but usually do not play a major role. The protagonists have numerous fighting styles, which we can upgrade. Of great importance are impressive finishers, in which opponents are eliminated in a particularly impressive way.
It’s hard to believe RGG wasn’t aware of Kagawa’s scandal when they cast him in Kiwami 3. It made major headlines three years ago for serious misconduct.
