Unlocking the quest
Cleansing Shiroyama Shrine during Chapter 2 causes the Tanuki Boss to appear by the shrine. Approach it and read its thoughts.
Walkthrough
The Boss will ask you to find all 25 Tanuki hidden around the city. They can take different forms but are easily recognizable thanks to their wagging tails.
The first tanuki is disguised as a pot and hides west of the shrine, by a small building. Examine it and return to the Tanuki Boss to complete the quest and begin your search for the remaining Tanuki.
After completing the quest and receiving your reward, the Boss will ask you to find the remaining 24 creatures. You can check how many Tanuki are hidden near the specific shrine by moving your cursor onto the Torii gate icon on the world map.
