Default starting area. You can also return here after eliminating all mission targets.
Main entrances to the tower. You must be using a disguise, Agent 47 may also be frisked.
Passageway to the construction site. You can easily sneak into the construction site.
Side gate. You can open it (preferably with a lockpick) after one of the guards moves away. It will allow you to get to the construction site.
Barge. There are two guards here. You can easily distract one of them and obtain a disguise. You can also sneak past them to get to the construction site.
Construciton site. Agent 47 can easily obtain a guard's disguise here and also find some tools. Additionally you will have an opportunity here to kill the mission targets by dropping a large object hanging on a crane. You can enter the tower from the back or from the side.
Tower. The main purpose of the visit is to kill Dawood Rangan. Level 2: Lobby. Level 3: Security room (you can disable surveillance and find a keycard), Makeup room, Storage area (keycard). Level 4: Film shoot (multiple opportunities for killing Rangan), Studio with the painter (you can steal his identity and kill Rangan when you're alone with him in the room). Level 5: Rangan's office. Levels 6 and 7: Floors under construction (you can electrify Rangan or kill him when he's interrogating the prisoner).
Chawl (apartment complex). Another hitman (Kashmirian) occupies the top floor and he has a sniper rifle ready. You can help him in eliminating two mission targets (one of the mission stories). His room is on a lower floor - break in or enter through the window.
Mumbai Laundry. Agent 47 can steal the identity of a foreman - he's on the upper floor of a building in the northern part of the laundry. It's tied to one of the mission stories about killing Vanya Shah.
Food District. You may find a man talking on the phone here. Once you lure him inside the building you can assault him and collect a photo of Maelstrom. It will be helpful in identifying him.
Alley in the slums. You can find Gregory Arthur in this area who is dressed like an angel (he's tied to one of the mission stories). Maelstrom also shows up here from time to time. You can find the entrance to the Crow's hideout in the sewers.
Barber Shop. You can attack and knock out the barber (make sure to also eliminate his wife). You can steal his identity, open the shop and wait for Maelstrom to show up. Eliminating him while shaving him is a part of a mission story.
Tailor shop. You can begin a story mission here which is about stealing the tailor's identity and meeting with Vanya Shah. There's also a textile district here - you can purchase the (blue) cloth to present it to Shah.
Crow's back alley. There's one of the passageways leading to the Crow's hideout here. You have to use a disguise and you may be frisked before going downstairs.
Tea shops. You can pose as one of the merchants and offer some tea to Maelstrom. You have to know his identity and you also have to insert poison into the tea.
House on the beach. Bandits are stationed here. You can find one of the passageways leading to the Crow's hideout and also visit a tower to complete one of several sniper challenges.
Mumbai Hills. This entire area is guarded by bandits. You can steak into the house where Maelstrom's love interest lives. Raising the flag will result in the Maelstrom showinp up here - you can poison him or find some other way of eliminating him.
Junkyard. The tailor shows up here, but only after you've overheard the conversation in his story. You can easily eliminate him and hide his body in high grass.
Main entrance to the train station. It's guarded. You can enter the train yard using a disguise, however it may be required to be frisked.
Side entrances to the train station. Consider them if you don't want to use a disguise.
Back entrance to the train station. It's guarded by two men, but you can avoid them by breaking into the container.
Carriage. You can break inside and access the train station that way.
Switch. You can find a lever and install it here. The purpose of that is to direct the train at the main building - an opportunity to kill Vanya Shah (and optionally Maelstrom).
Train yard. Vanya Shah resides her - she spends most time talking to guests. Level 0: Throne area, Steam pool (an opportunity to stage an accident), Security room carriage (you can disable the cameras), Vanya Shah's Carriage (you can kill her when she's alone), additional places to poison or drown Vanya. Level 2: Upper walkways. Level 3: Roof of the station (opportunity to sabotage the steam pool).
Crow's Hideout. It's on the level -1. You can get here from the sewers, from the Crow's back alley or from the house on the beach. You can find Maelstrom's photo here and meet him disguised as the Kashmirian (the other hitman).
Main entrances to the tower. You must be using a disguise, Agent 47 may also be frisked.

This page in our guide to Hitman 2 contains the map with locations available in the fourth episode - a high rise block, slums, and a train station in Mumbai. We have marked the most important locations. Below you can find the general description of this location where you can learn about the mission's objectives and rewards for unlocking new Mastery levels. The detailed walkthrough for the Mumbai level is on another page of our guide.

General information about Chasing a Ghost mission

  1. You need to assassinate three targets - the Maelstrom, Vanya Shah, and Dawood Rangan. You can kill them in any order. This episode has more opportunities to assassinate more than one target in a single action than other missions.
  2. The Maelstrom is an unusual target because you don't know how this person looks like - you need to identify this target. How to easily identify the Maelstrom? page is very useful here. The Maelstrom's clothes and other characteristics are randomized every time you replay this mission. Maelstrom walks around the slums but the target can also stop near the barber or the booths with tea. The Maelstrom can also meet with other characters from your list, i.e. their beloved or the Kashmirian (another assassin on this map).
  3. Vanya Shah is in the abandoned train yard controlled by her people. The woman hosts her guests, but she can also leave her throne to, i.e. wash her face or drink tea. You can change her daily schedule when you are at the station, or you can make her leave the train yard to, i.e. meet with the laundry worker or one of the mission targets.
  4. Dawood Rangan is on one of the upper floors of the high-rise block. He can be in his office, on the movie set or go to the floor that is still under construction to interrogate the prisoner. You can force him to do other activities, i.e. to meet with the painter. Rangan leaves the building only in special circumstances, i.e. to meet with one of the targets.
  5. Mumbai is one of the largest locations in the game. We recommend exploring the entire map to get accustomed to it. Then, try to get (various) outfits of the guards. You will use them to explore the two biggest areas on this level - the high-rise block and the train station. Memorize placements of important items (i.e. unused outfits or poison).
  6. Mumbai offers 7 Mission Stories. They can help you eliminate your targets. Besides that, you can also complete 94 challenges. Agent 47 can reach Mastery level 20.

The upgraded version of the default silenced pistol. Has more firepower at a cost of reduced fire rate.

Starting outfit: Laundry worker.

A rather good starting outfit thanks to which you will, i.e. have an easier time completing the Mission Story during which you meet with Vanya.

Only small items can be placed here.

Starting location: Boat.

This location isn't that useful. The only thing it allows you to do is to reach the hill guarded by Crows faster.

Starting location: Barge.

Starting outfit: Local guard.

This starting location and the outfit make for a great combination. You can immediately infiltrate the high-rise block (the one where you can find Dawood Rangan).

Bartoli 12G Short H shotgun

This weapon is practically useless for the challenges available on this level.

Starting location: Skywalk.

The skywalk gives you better access to some of the neighbor locations. However, Agent 47 will have a hard time infiltrating them without a proper outfit.

A good place for smuggling a sniper rifle or any bigger item into the level.

ICA Remote Explosive Mk II

The ability to detonate an explosive remotely is a good thing, but the explosive charge can be easily detected as a threat.

Starting location: Taxi.

This location doesn't offer you any unique features.

Starting location: Old tyre.

Only small items can be placed here. This location is next to the train yard - try to smuggle in, i.e. a poison or a lockpick.

Hidden stash: Beach.

Only small items can be placed here.

Starting location: Chawls.

This building is near the default starting location. However, this place allows you to reach the Kashmirian faster.

ICA Proximity Micro Explosive

This explosive detonates automatically when someone gets closer to it.

Starting location: Slums.

Starting outfit: Food vendor.

A rather good combination. Thanks to the outfit, you will be harder to detect in the slums. It also allows you to poison Maelstrom while the target is visiting a tea booth.

Starting location: Metal forge.

Starting outfit: Metal vendor.

The metal vendor outfit will help you avoid the Crows. However, this doesn't change much.

Poison: Emetic Syringe Mk II

An interesting gadget. This substance works like rat poison. However, this one requires you to get close to your target.

DAK X2 Covert

A submachine gun with a silencer. Useful in specific circumstances, i.e. when you have to quickly kill someone after being detected.

Starting location: Photo shoot.

Starting outfit: Dancer.

A good place to start this mission. A dancer doesn't have the same rights as a guard, however, you start near Rangan. You can also use this opportunity to look for another outfit.

Starting location: Hill.

Starting outfit: member of the Crows.

A useful starting location with a good outfit. This costume allows you to enter numerous locations (i.e. the Crows' hideout). This starting location also allows you to assassinate Maelstrom with ease.

Hidden stash: Carpark.

You can use this stash to smuggle a sniper rifle or other large items into the level.

Starting location: Train yard.

Starting outfit: Shah's servant.

This starting location and the outfit make for a good combination. Agent 47 can reach Shah with ease. You can also deactivate monitoring system on the map or look for another outfit.

You can use this stash to smuggle a sniper rifle or other large items into the level.

Druzhina 34 sniper rifle

This weapon has a better range than the sniper rifle from Hawke's Bay. Very useful in Mumbai. However, this model also lacks a silencer.

In Mumbai, players can reach Mastery level 20. However, this will take you some time due to the fact that you have to complete numerous challenges. This location doesn't offer any new gadgets you should get at all cost but the emetic syringe and the new sniper rifle (without a silencer) will help you eliminate certain targets.

When choosing a starting location, pick those that allow you to start the mission in an outfit and near one of the mission targets. The best ones are the train yard, the barge, and the photo shoot. Mumbai is full of hidden stashes - choose them accordingly to your current challenge or Mission Story. As for larger stashes (those that can store a sniper rifle), choose the ones adjacent to the places where your targets are (i.e. train tracks, the construction site or the hill).
