One of the greatest works of the seinen genre has reached its final chapter, 20 years after its premiere. This is the end of an era, but also a bittersweet moment for Vinland Saga fans. Yes, they got an ending - unlike Berserk or Vagabond fans - but at the same time, it means the series is truly over.
Chapter 220 is the final chapter of the Vinland Saga. On July 24 2025, fans have experienced the finale of this epic adventure created by Makoto Yukimura.
The first chapter of Vinland Saga was published in Weekly Shonen Magazine in April 2005. In October of the same year, the series was transferred to Monthly Afternoon. In 2019 the series was adapted into an anime, with the first season produced by Wit Studio and MAPPA taking over for the second one. Both the manga and the anime were appreciated by both viewers and critics, who praised the world-building and the depth of the story.
After releasing the last chapter of his long-running work, Makoto Yukimura took the time to thank the fans who supported him and the Vinland Saga over the past 20 years. The author admitted that when he began the series, he believed he could finish the story in 10 years. It ultimately took him twice as long to reach a satisfying conclusion.

I wanted to depict the journey of a child maturing through various life experiences. I hope I managed to present it well. […] Anyway, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. i'm glad that it's over. It’s been 20 years, and during that time, I could’ve gotten sick or had an accident that stopped me from drawing. Long series are stressful. "20 volumes in total, 10 years to complete it... During that time, I knew I’d have to be careful about accidents and any interruptions to the series" - that’s what I thought 20 years ago. My plans couldn’t go according to schedule! Thank you all for staying with me throughout this long journey.
If you haven't heard about the Vinland Saga, it tells the story of Thorfinn, who was raised by the Vikings who murdered his family, and grows up to be a terrifying warrior. Driven by revenge, Thorfinn aims to avenge his father by targeting Askeladd, the group's leader.
