AMD Radeon RX 3080 XT - RTX 2070 Performance at Half Price?

Several new rumors about AMD Navi graphics cards - Radeon RX 3080 XT and 3090 XT - have surfaced on the web. According to leaks, the first chipset will offer performance similar to RTX 2070, but it will cost only half its price.

More rumors about AMD Navi.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Radeon RX 3080 XT - Performance at GeForce RTX 2070 level, priced at $330, release in Q3 2019;
  2. Radeon RX 3090 XT - 10% faster than Radeon VII, priced at $499 dollars, launch in 2020.

TweakTown has published several more rumors (originally posted by AdoredTV) about AMD's new graphics cards, the long-awaited Navi GPU. According to the leaks, the Radeon RX 3080 XT is to offer performance at the level of the competitive GeForce RTX 2070, but it will cost only $330. For comparison, various RTX 2070 models can be bought for around $500 The new AMD card will be based on a Navi 10 chip, with 56 rendering units, 8 GB of GDDR6 memory and a TDP of 190W. Radeon RX 3080 XT will debut in the third quarter of this year.

The Radeon RX 3090 XT, on the other hand, is expected to deliver 10% better performance than the most powerful AMD card available today, the Radeon VII. Rumors suggest that the model will have 64 rendering units and 16GB GDDR6, at a price of $499. However, we will have to wait for it until 2020, which means that at the moment it is very difficult to assess its possible competitiveness. Until then, Nvidia will probably also present something new, and according to rumors, the next Nvidia GPUs, based on the Ampere architecture, are to be produced in 7nm lithography (similar to Radeon's).

All of the above information is derived from unofficial leaks and should, therefore, be handled with care. If, however, AMD were to introduce a card with an RTX 2070 performance level into the medium segment, this would create a lot of waves on the market. Nvidia would be forced to significantly cut the prices of its products. It is also worth mentioning that the Navi architecture is the basis for the next generation of console GPUs - the solid performance of the Radeon RX 3080 XT would be a good omen for them. So all we can do is keep our fingers crossed for today's information to be confirmed.
