Apex Legends - Respawn Confirms That Forge was a Red Herring

Respawn Entertainment admitted that the character of James „The Forge” McCormick was created only to throw off data miners, i.e. people who search the game files for hidden content.

Forge, "forged", how come nobody noticed that?
IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Respawn Entertainment never intended to add Forge to Apex Legends;
  • Character information is included in the game files just to confuse the players.

Jason McCord, one of the developers working on Apex Legends, admitted in an interview with Dot Esports that James "The Forge" McCormick was Respawn Entertainment's response to players notoriously looking for traces of unannounced content in game files. Frustrated by the fact that information about new playable characters (so-called legends) goes online long before they are officially revealed, the developers prepared false trail for the players. They hid information about a non-existent character - Forge - in Apex Legends game files

Players quickly found information about the new legend and took the "forged" bait. Of course, the hero was never intended to appeared in Apex Legends. He was officially killed off by Revenant on a trailer prepared by Respawn (watch above). Is there a chance that developers will change their mind and add Forge to the game in the future? Jason McCord put the record straight:

"Forge is super dead."

Apex Legends was released on February 4, 2019 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The title is available in free-to-play model.
