The modding community of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is growing at an impressive pace. There is no better example of this than the Bannerlord Online project, which transforms the game into an MMO title, where more than a thousand players can play on a single server. The mod has been in development for several years and has now reached a level that enables us to recommend it to ordinary players, not just veteran modders.

The standard game has a multiplayer option, but multiplayer games focus on battles. Bannerlord Online changes that, offering the same great sandbox in the online variant that can be enjoyed in the single player mode. The gameplay structure is the same as when playing solo, but each character we encounter is controlled by a different player.

Users of the server themselves have to produce resources and deliver them to workshops. The geopolitical situation and economy here are mostly shaped by players with their own actions.. To make it all work properly, the developers added quite a few new perks.

All in all, it works surprisingly well for a mod. The authors used a very solid foundation of the single player mode of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and built a small MMO on that basis. In truth, it would not be a big exaggeration to say that this is currently the best medieval MMORPG you can play, especially since the competing Life is Feudal: Your Own is already clearly in decline, and the servers of Gloria Victis were shut down last month.

Therefore, if you crave medieval atmospheres without magic and monsters, you'll be hard pressed to find anything better these days than Bannerlord Online. An additional advantage is the simple installation, because the project has a launcher that will do everything for you itself..
