Michael Keaton Explains His Idea for Batman's Voice; 'It's Cheesy, but...'
Among other things, Michael Keaton became famous for his role as Batman, to whom he gave his recognizable style of expression. Now he has explained where he got the idea for the raspy „I am Batman”.
"I am Batman" - this famous phrase is certainly associated with most fans of superhero cinema, especially those who adore the DC universe. The author of the said performance is Michael Keaton, who first played the character in 1989.
Keaton reveals the backstory of his "I am Batman" performance.
The actor took part in a Q&A session conducted by Empire. In response to one of the questions he revealed, why he decided to give Batman a husky voice. Here's how Keaton narrated the superhero:
"The guy has two personalities. He doesn't have mental problems, but he doesn't have much. It is such a controlled psychosis, a kind of deep trance. [...] How to justify the voice? It's cheesy, but I thought that when he's in a trance, he doesn't think like Bruce Wayne, he doesn't act like him. So what came out of it was such a voice for Batman, it was really practical thing," explained the actor.
"I am Batman" in the restored trailer for the 1989 film, directed by Tim Burton.
Keaton again in the role of Batman
If you haven't heard yet, we're happy to report that Michael Keaton will soon don the cape again and ride the Batmobile. As Bruce Wayne, he will return in the the upcoming Flash, which will premiere on June 16 (at a later date, the movie will be available on HBO Max). In addition, Batman will be played by Ben Affleck, and the title character will be played by Ezra Miller, who has played the Flash in the past.
