Black Ops 6 (BO6) Audio Subscription Explained. Other Games Have It Too and You Didn't Notice
In CoD Black Ops 6 you will find advanced audio settings. The only problem is that you must pay for them. However, it is not the only game with this feature.
Call of Duty will be back in a few hours with the newest installment called Black Ops 6. From day one you will be able to enjoy three modes – Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies. Although the game has not yet been released, it is already causing controversy. All because of paid audio options.
BO6 Audio Subscription Controversies
In live-service games, you can easily find microtransactions. Depending on the game, they allow you to unlock cosmetic skins or temporary boosters. But what about paid settings? Call of Duty Black Ops 6 shows that it is possible. Content creator – Omeqa – shared on X screen of paid audio functions.
The new feature is called Enhanced Headphone Mode and allows you to use third party technology – Embody's Immerse Spatial Audio. This option increases the directional accuracy of sounds in the game. However, in the free version you have access only to an ordinary in-game profile.
If you want to personalize the sound, you will have to pay. A license for this feature costs 20 dollars for 5 years. Undecided players can also start a free trial (which lasts 30-days). It seems that the price is not steep, but it still raises some doubts. Especially, considering that Black Ops 6 is mainly a multiplayer game, so players can take advantage of better audio. It raises the question, should it be promoted inside BO6?
Embody also offers enhanced audio for other games, like Final Fantasy XIV and Cyberpunk 2077. In those cases, however, you can’t buy this feature directly from the game. It is absent in CP2077, and grayed out in FF16 (with instructions how to unlock it). You have to go to the official website of the company and purchase the Immerse Gamepack.
