From a fast Early Access exit to 250K copies sold. Cataclismo became Digital Sun’s biggest hit yet.

Cataclismo is one of those rare games that didn’t linger in Early Access forever. It launched on Steam in July 2024 and wrapped things up with a 1.0 update just 8 months later in March 2025. Digital Sun clearly knows how to finish a game on time while still delivering solid updates and post-launch content – just like they did with Moonlighter and The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story. Now, they’re celebrating a big milestone: 250K sales! To mark the occasion, they’ve announced an Experimental Branch release, biweekly showcases of community-created maps, and a few more surprises.
Digital Sun stepped away from its usual roguelike RPGs and dove into the tower defense RTS genre with Cataclismo. Set in a post-apocalyptic world covered in poisonous mist, we’ll build fortresses brick by brick during the day and fend off relentless hordes at night.
At full launch on March 20, the game introduced the final act of the campaign, a revamped survival mode, and a brand-new biome, The Depths.
Fast forward to April 4, 2025, and Cataclismo has crushed it, selling over 250,000 copies and becoming Digital Sun’s highest-rated game on Steam with a 91% review score. To celebrate, they announced a few surprises and thanked the community:
From the early demo days to the triumph of our 1.0 launch, your unwavering support has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. We’ve been genuinely moved by the enthusiasm of our community on Steam, Discord, and Reddit.
Watching your towering fortresses rise has been a joy beyond words. Thank you.

Here’s what the developers have prepared for us:
Digital Sun isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Even with Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault set for release in 2025, they’re still going strong with Cataclismo, keeping the updates and support coming.

Been with gamepressure.com since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or admiring my collection of retro consoles.
