Celeste Devs Recover Lost The Game Awards Trophy Thanks to Streamer

Thanks to streamer PrestigeIsKey, the developers of Celeste will reclaim their lost The Game Awards award for Best Independent Game of 2018.

Extremely OK Games will finally receive The Game Awards statuette it won after Celeste was voted the best independent game of 2018. This trophy went missing and was found thanks to one of the players.

What happened to The Game Awards statuette for Celeste

  1. At the 2018 gala, the statuette was presented to the developers by streamer Ninja. However, it was later taken away and was supposed to have been sent to the studio by mail. However, it never reached the recipient and no one had any idea what actually happened to it.
  2. Recently, streamer PrestigeIsKey decided that it would be cool to own a replica of this award. Searching the listings on Ebay, he found an auction for a real statuette. He had doubts that it wasn't a scam, but decided to take a chance and paid $375 plus shipping.
  3. When the package reached him, it turned out to be The Game Awards statuette for best indie game of 2018.
  4. The seller himself is not quite sure how he came into possession of this item. All he knows is that it was part of some liquidation proceedings.
  5. PrestigeIsKey contacted the creators of Celeste and offered to send them the prize. They, in gratitude, promised to reimburse him for the purchase and shipping costs and send him several autographed copies of the game.

Celeste was released in January 2018. The game is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
