IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Denuvo SecureDLC is a new software from Irdeto.
  • It will secure DLCs against piracy.
  • Until now, Denuvo has only protected the base versions of games.

The creators of Denuvo have revealed a new variant of their software. The product they just unveiled is called Denuvo SecureDLC and will help game developers battle piracy when it comes to DLCs.

DLC not for pirates

Denuvo is currently a very popular software that protects video games from piracy. Despite criticism from gamers, developers use the company's products because it is simply beneficial.

To date, however, Denuvo has only protected the basic versions of games. Any DLCs, on the other hand, were a gray and unprotected zone. So players could buy the base game and pirate expansions at will. The situation is similar for free-to-play games offering additional paid content.

The company has decided to address this problem, and its answer is Denuvo SecureDLC. It's new software that will protect from piracy the aforementioned DLCs. We're talking about both full-fledged expansions and small add-ons like cosmetic items.

Developers will be able to use the tool to secure both paid games on Steam or Epic Games Store and free titles.

At the same time, the developers of Denuvo SecureDLC assure that their software has a minimal impact on the game code, so it should not interfere with its operation.

However, we also heard similar assurances with the standard version of Denuvo. In turn, it has repeatedly turned out that this security measue made lives unpleasant for honest players.

Whether this will be the case this time too, we will find out when the first developers start using the software.
