Network shooters, which allow for fun between PC and console owners, are usually a source of many controversies. These mainly stem from the fact that players using mouse and keyboard often feel disadvantaged compared to those using controllers, which during gameplay can use aim assist functions (although, on the other hand, targeting enemies with the mouse is much easier than using a gamepad).

Although the creators usually do not want to interfere in this aspect, in the case of The Finals the criticism was so great that Embark Studios decided to take action. The result is an update that - at least in principle - is intended to affect the way aiming is assisted, and thus equalize the chances of both user groups on the virtual battlefield.

"Today we bring a small patch that takes into account community feedback on aim assist, fair play rules, and bug fixes. These changes are the result of an in-depth analysis of how aim assist works - something we could only verify with a player base as large as ours," reads the developers' announcement.

From the information that Embark Studios posted on the game's website, we learn that update 1.4.1 is intended to make aiming with a controller less smooth and precise. In addition to this, the developers removed the zoom from several types of weapons, as it excessively affected their effectiveness.

Even if the developers manage to slightly level the playing field for players, they still have a lot of work to do to reduce the number of cheaters, who are a plague to the game. Recently, a content creator published a video on YouTube exposing the cheating of the top players in The Finals. It involved using a special program that enabled them to use controller-style aim assist while playing with keyboard and mouse.

Perhaps the breakthrough will happen soon, as Embark Studios has announced that in the coming days it will release the next update, which is to introduce significant improvements in terms of security and new content. Let's hope, however, that interference with the anti-cheat will not cause innocent players to start receiving bans again.
