Dragon Age Veilguard Won't Let You Carry Over Too Many Choices From Inquisition. Absence of Some Surprised Fans

It seems that the decisions made in the third installment won't have too many consequences. For some palyers, this is quite a step backward.

WARNING: THE TEXT CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE GAME DRAGON AGE: THE VEILGUARD

The September hands-on session at EA headquarters revealed many plot treats from the first hours of The Veilguard, such as possible biographies for the new protagonist. The presence of Rook doesn't mean that BioWare has forgotten about the old heroes, as the Inquisitor himself will return in the fourth installment. Unfortunately, this first good news was quickly met with a wave of disappointment - all due to the issue of transferring choices.

"Even with low expectations this is still a bummer"

Before starting the adventure in The Veilguard, players will be able to recreate the appearance and lineage of the Inquisitor based on their own gameplay. The developers only took into account the transfer of three story choices, two of which concern the Trespasser DLC – the same one in which Solas revealed his true identity.

Among the choices we have, for instance, are choosing a romantic path, the fate of the Inquisition (which we could have resolved at the end of the expansion), and the Inquisitor's intentions towards Solas - namely, whether we want to stop him at all costs or lead him onto the right path.

Commenting players express shock and disappointment, noting the absence of significant plot decisions even in the basic version of the third installment. Among other things, there was a lack of choice between Morrigan and the Inquisitor at the Well of Sorrows, the issue of sacrificing one person in the Void, or even the political election of a new Divine.

No divine choice is pretty surprising. Not that I expected them to show up but it seems like that might be pretty direct confirmation that there won't be any cameos from Leliana, Cassandra, or Viv. Unless they decide to make one of those choices canon without our input which I can't imagine will happen.

I've already come to terms with the idea that the choices that carry over would be disappointing, but even with low expectations this is still a bummer.

Please tell me there's another tab or five hidden after this one. If they're really canning the Keep in favor of doing it all in-game they need more than just three choices. A lot more. Inquisition alone had so many major ones and this is just...disappointing.

How did the transfer of choices look like in the previous installments?

If BioWare didn't actually conceal some of the options in the hands-on version, this represents a significant regression compared to Inquisition. The choices from the Origins were transferred to the second part by uploading saves, while a special platform called Dragon Age Keep was created for the third installment. Players could use it to make all the choices from previous parts, even the insignificant ones like helping an NPC in a side quest.

In practice, the gameplay changes were rather small, although it must be admitted that meeting a side character saved in the first installment or Alistair in the role of a king could be enjoyable. In the Inquisition there was no shortage of more important decisions, the consequences of which could affect all of Thedas - this means that the current concerns of fans are justified.
