Elden Ring Problems on PC - Players Search for Solutions

Bandai Namco assures that work is underway to resolve Elden Ring's issues. For now, players are inventing ways to improve the game's performance on their own.

Elden Ring has captivated gamers and journalists, but also prove the old saying that there is no rose without thorns. Reviews of the game on Steam remain "mixed" due to technical problems, despite first update with fixes.

The developers are probably already working on further improvements (and addition of ray tracing), but for now players are trying to find solutions to the problems of the PC edition of Elden Ring on their own. Moderators of the game's subforum on Reddit have set up a thread where Internet users share temporary ways to deal with the bugs.

NOTE: The following describes unofficial solutions to problems with running Elden Ring. Although they have been verified by Internet users, we recommend caution and warn against downloading files that automatically "fix" the game.

Elden Ring Anticheat and crashes

As you can easily guess, the biggest problem are cases of the game crashing. Some Internet users claim that this could be due to, among other things, the presence of the Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) used by Elden Ring.

The solution is to run the game offline by adopting the following steps (via u/Helpful guy from Reddit):

  1. Create a new text file named "steam_appid.txt";
  2. Open the file and type "1245620" as text (without the quotes);
  3. Place the .txt file in the same location as Elden Ring.exe;
  4. Run Elden Ring's .exe file directly, bypassing Steam.

Effect: Elden Ring should launch online with EAC disabled.

In addition, gamers are advised to update their GPU drivers and download the latest version of Microsoft Visual C , reducing or no longer using undervolting (for AMD chips) and overclocking the CPU. Unfortunately, apparently this did not enable everyone to avoid crashes.

Performance and invisible enemies

Even before the release there were comments about the strange optimization of Elden Ring. The game can have performance issues even on the most powerful PCs (despite the fact that the game can be run on a computer that doesn't meet the minimum requirements). One of the solutions is to enable high performance mode in the graphic settings, i.e. having the game use a more powerful GPU. Elden Ring must be turned off before starting the procedure (via u/Phis777).

  1. In the Start menu, search for and open Graphic Settings.
  2. In the new window, select "Browse" and search for the game's .exe file.
  3. Then click the "Options" button and check "High Performance".

It is worth noting that the method described above also solves the problem with invisible opponents (read: the game doesn't render their models).

A similar procedure can be performed on Steam. Apart from that, there were suggestions to disable the in-game Steam Overlay and Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator from the Device Manager (in the "Software Devices" section). Here we also recommend installing the latest GPU drivers.

Bandai Namco promises fixes

These and other "home-made" fixes are useful, but many will probably expect official solutions. Bandai Namco company is not deaf to complaints. Elden Ring's publisher has released a post, in which the company referred to problems with the operation of the game and a certain glitch on PlayStation 5. It was assured that the developers are working on solving them.

  1. The EAC-related crash is supposed to affect Steam accounts with "double-byte" characters in the name and will be fixed in an upcoming update.
  2. As for the performance issues, a GPU driver update has been recommended and the developers have been assured that they will continually work on improving the situation so that it can be "played comfortably across platforms and PC environments."
  3. Bandai Namco also mentioned a bug with improper saving of game states on PS5. This can occur when the console is suddenly turned off during gameplay or in rest mode. This will be fixed in a patch, but for now it has been recommended to save by exiting the game from the menu.

There are also plans to fix other bugs, but the devs encourage to contact the technical support department and report any problems encountered, nevertheless.
