End of Support for Windows 10 1903 as Microsoft Forces Us to Update

Microsoft plans to end its support for the older version of Windows 10, numbered 1903. Therefore, the process of automatic updates has started on the computers of users who have so far delayed the installation of the patch.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 version 1903, version 1909, which is also not the latest one, will automatically be downloaded on users' computers;
  2. We also have the option to install the latest patch - October 2020 Update - without the 1909 release.

In December, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 version 1903 (the so-called May 2019 Update). As a result, the company has started the process of enforcing the update, to, interestingly, the 1909 release and not the latest one (via Neowin). This means that users delaying the download of patches can expect another forced update in a few months.

It is worth noting that the switch to a newer version of the operating system was supposed to take place earlier, but it was delayed due to difficulties caused by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Of course, there is nothing to prevent us from manually checking which version of the system you can install on your hardware at this point and, if you wish, speed up the update. The appropriate option can be found in the "Update and security" tab in the settings (click the "check for updates" button once there). The latest big patch - 20H2, so called October 2020 Update - can also be downloaded on a computer running on build 1903.

It is also worth remembering that from the security point of view the best solution is to have the latest version of Windows 10.
