Bethesda has an Idea for Fallout 5, but We Won't See the Game Anytime Soon

Todd Howard says Bethesda has an idea for a Fallout 5, but we'll have to wait a while for the release.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Todd Howard mentioned in IGN Unfiltered that Bethesda has an idea for the next installment of Fallout;
  2. The title is in early pre-development, so we'll have to wait a long time before we see it.

On the occasion of Skyrim's 10th anniversary, IGN interviewed Todd Howard, chief director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, during an episode of the IGN Unfiltered series. During the interview, the future of Starfield, The Elder Scrolls, and Fallout, among others, were discussed. Regarding the latter Howard gave some new information.

He denied when asked about the possibility of another developer, such as Obsidian Entertainment, creating the next installment of this iconic series. He stated that the series is part of Bethesda's DNA. In addition, although he can not talk too much about the future, he said that while working every now and then with other people, he developed a "one-pager" for Fallout 5.

According to the definition a one-pager is a one-page document which apart from basic information, such as the title, describes in very general terms what the idea behind the product is.

This means that at this point Bethesda is in the very early stages of pre-development for the game, and it's not surprising that at least a tentative release date hasn't been given. Bearing in mind that the studio is currently focusing on the development of Starfield and then has to deal with The Elder Scrolls VI, the next Fallout is not coming for a very long time.
