Fan-made Metroid II remake is out on PC

Another Metroid II Remake: Return of Samus is finally out for PC. The project features Metroid II story mixed with Metroid: Zero Mission gameplay plus a bunch of new content and features.

While Nintendo is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original Metroid this week, a fan has taken the opportunity to finally release his Metroid II remake, after 8 years of development. Another Metroid II Remake: Return of Samus (or simply AM2R) is an entirely fan-made project that features the original Metroid II story with some new gameplay mechanics. The remake is already out for Windows PC and soon it will also become available for Linux. You can find the download in the link below along with several-minutes of gameplay footage just under that:

  1. Download AM2R: Return of Samus from the official website

The original Metroid II released back in 1991 for Game Boy. The project in hand is actually not just a simple remake – it adds a bunch of new features and content, such as Metroid: Zero Mission-style fast-paced gameplay, updated AI, map system, redrawn graphics and new high-quality soundtrack, as well as extra areas and bosses.

Several hours ago the AM2R project creator twitted about an alleged DMCA takedown notice from Nintendo and stopped hosting the game’s file. Later however, he said that this could have been a fake and promised to re-host as soon as he gets a confirmation. Since the download is live again, it seems like everything is fine – at least for now.
