Fatal Error in Expedition 33? Here's something you should try
Fatal Error is haunting Clair Obscur Expedition 33 players. Is there any way to fix this bug?
Dystopian jRPG, Clair Obscur Expedition 33, is one of the highest-rated titles of 2025. But it doesn’t mean that this game is perfect. Players struggle with some technical difficulties like audio stutters or getting stuck. Moreover, people also report Fatal Error, making the game unplayable. So, how to fix it?
How to fix Fatal Error in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Clair Obscur Expedition 33 players report Fatal Error that causes game crashes. Interestingly, this bug can start appearing even after some hours of gameplay.
First of all, you should try a few simple solutions. In many cases, these methods helped players with this error.
- Update drivers.
- Verify files.
- Run the game as administrator (use the exe file in the game directory, not launcher).
- Turn off Steam Overlay (luckily, it looks like the crash which forced us to have it on is fixed)
- If you use XeSS, you should switch to another upscaling technology.
If the above do not fix your problem, you can try more complicated methods. For example, force the game to use DirectX 11. How to do this? Right-click Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in your Steam Library, select Properties, and in the “Launch Options” write “-dx11”. After saving changes, you can launch the game. However, this has a one downside – performance will be worse.
The second fix that can help solve this problem is to remove D3D12 folder (make sure to create a copy of the folder before, to be on the safe side). You will find it in:
