First Reviews: Serious Sam 4 - Good Shooter With Issues

Yesterday the FPS Serious Sam 4 made its debut on PC. Reviews show that the title is a nice piece of work, but a bit too monotonous and lacking technical polish.

Serious Sam 4 is a decent proposition for fans of classic shooters, but maybe it's worth waiting for a few patches.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Yesterday Serious Sam 4 debuted on PC;

Yesterday, Serious Sam 4, the latest installment in a series of dynamic FPS series focusing on extermination of alien legions, launched on the market. For now, the title is available only on PC (it can be purchased on Steam, for PLN 142.99), but a console release is planned for next year (on PS4 and Xbox One). Reviews of the game have already appeared online.

It seems that Serious Sam 4 is a decent game and a return to the roots of first-person shooters. The game does not try to revolutionize the genre, but offers a solid dose of fun. Unfortunately, the monotony and technical issues prevent the title from standing out above mediocrity.

Serious Sam 4 is easily the richest game in the series, expanding on the character and his world while not holding back on the action that’s been the major draw from the earliest days. While it starts off gently and takes a bit to ramp up, soon enough rampaging werebulls charge in with a swarm of kleer, backed up by big green four-armed reptiloids tossing homing-spheres, plus a nice variety of new enemies to fill in the herd," writes James Cunningham on Hardcore Gamer.

"Serious Sam 4 is a very good game in an underwhelming package. There's no doubt that the relentless carnage and large levels hit the sweet spot of old-school FPS charm in the solo and co-op modes. It feels good to shoot, dodge and scramble to pick up items at a frantic pace. The various bugs, long load times, and lackluster presentation drag things down significantly. It is well worth playing if you need a classic shooter fix, but be prepared for rough times until a few patches come into play," reports Cody Medellin from Worth Playing.

"Serious Sam 4 fails to capture the spirit of older games and somehow manages to feel like a step back for the series. While there is a Serious Sam game here, it's wrapped in a shell marred by consistent visual and audio glitches, ugly graphics, and some seriously dated game design, criticizes Zackery Cuevas on Windows Central.
