First Reviews: Wasteland 3 - inXile Delivers

The first reviews of Wasteland 3 have appeared online, with nines dominating, indicating that inXile Entertainment has really put some effort into the project; fans of RPG and post-apocalypse should therefore be satisfied.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The average of first reviews for Wasteland 3 on PC is 86% on Metacritic;
  2. The most important qualities cited by the reviewers include well-designed world that responds to our actions, excellent dialogues and storyline and a sophisticated combat system;
  3. The game has some bugs, however, and its optimization on PCs could have been better.

The first reviews of Wasteland 3, the latest work of inXile Entertainment, saw the light of day. Players who have been waiting for the title but were worried about its quality, can take a breath of relief. Industry critics say that the game is not only a refined, but also an exceptionally complex RPG.

Below is a summary of the first scored, and further on, a brief discussion of the main advantages and disadvantages of the third Wasteland. First of all, however, it should be noted that at the time of writing this news, the PC version of the gameboasts an average rating of 86% (there were even some tens among the 23 notes) on Metacritic; the releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have not yet received enough reviews.

Apparently, in the freezing Colorado, the Watchmen of the Void feel even better than in sandy Arizona.

Wasteland 3 - first reviews:

  1. Player 2 - 100/100;
  2. Windows Central - 100/100;
  3. COGconnected - 90/100;
  4. Shacknews - 90/100;
  5. Wccftech - 90/100;
  6. GameWatcher - 85/100;
  7. Screen Rant - 80/100;
  8. Eurogamer Italy - 70/100.

Let's start with the fact that the greatest strength of Wasteland 3 is the wide range of possibilities that the developers offer. Additionally, the world reacts to our actions and changes depending on the decisions we make during the game. This makes the game a kind of "benchmark" for the entire RPG genre in the future. Reviewers also praise the work of inXile Entertainment for its sophisticated combat system, as well as well thought-out and extensive locations. The engaging story layer, as well as perfectly written dialogues and well-designed characters also deserve praise.

As for the drawbacks, some reviewers are somewhat skeptical of the visuals that "don't look terrible, but are certainly not beautiful either". One can also raise some issues with optimization of the PC version (loadings can get longer even after installing the game on an SSD). Besides, small bugs appear from time to time, and in some locations the sounds are "looped". In the above list, the rating given by the editors of Eurogamer Italy stands out, crowned by the statement that "Wasteland 3 is a good RPG that uses the old formula".

Finally, Wasteland 3 will make its debut on PCs, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 28 (available on Xbox Game Pass from the day of launch).
