Five Nights at Freddy's saw its first weekened after premiere and box office results have shown that the work has paid off. The movienot only made money for itself, but also garnered great ratings from viewers, contrary to what the reviewers wrote. Such good results may suggest that now the Blumhouse label will be interested in a sequel.

Budget of Five Nights at Freddy's was only $20 million, and global box office results from the weekend of its release were as high as $130 million.. This is all the more impressive when you consider that the horror movie simultaneously hit the Peackock streaming platform. It is not as popular as Netflix or Prime Video, but even so, the movie's availability online could cause reduced interest in the work in theaters.

The production is also another occasion on which the expectations of fans and reviewers have completely diverged. On Rotten Tomatoes the ratings of journalists continue to fall, and by now only 26% of them gave a positive rating. On the other hand, up to 88% of viewers received the movie adaptation of the popular game positively. For the creators, this is a clear signal that there will be expectations for a sequel.

Five Nights at Freddy's - will there be a sequel?

Its creation seems to be obvious, as actor Matthew Lillard has reportedly signed a contract for three movies. As early as on the premiere day, the future of the project was discussed by director Emma Tammi. At the time, it was not known that the production would earn as much as it did, and that fans would receive the adaptation of their favorite game series so well (vide Variety):

"We'll see what the situation is after the weekend. We're definitely excited at the thought of making more movies from the universe, and maybe we'll be lucky enough to do it. This [movie] is related to the first game, so probably the second one would be based on the second game and so on. But anything can still happen, we just have to be patient."

After such a good start, all that's left to do is wait for the official announcement that Five Nights at Freddy's 2 has been given the green light. The first part has earned its part, and chances are that the next movie will receive a decidedly bigger budget, making for an even better show.
